Laser Beam Welding of a Ti-15Mo/TiB Metal–Matrix Composite

چکیده
A Ti-15Mo/TiB metal–matrix composite was produced by spark plasma sintering at 1400 °C. The fractions of the elements in initial powder mixture were 80.75 wt.% Ti, 14.25 Mo, and 5 TiB2. structure synthesized composed bcc β titanium matrix needle-like TiB reinforcements with an average thickness 500 ± 300 nm. Microstructure mechanical properties studied after laser beam welding (LBW) carried out room temperature or various pre-heating temperatures: 200, 400, 600 quality welded joints not found to be dependent noticeably on temperature; all welds consisted pores size which reached 200–300 µm. In contrast acicular individual particles base material, whiskers weld zone have a form bunches. maximum microhardness (~700 HV) obtained 200 °C; this value ~200 HV higher than that material.

Laser beam welding has wide acceptability due to least welding distortion, low labour costs and convenient operation. However, laser welding for dissimilar titanium and aluminium alloys is a new area which is having wider applications in aerospace, aircraft, automotive, electronics and other industries. The present study is concerned with welding parameters namely laser power, welding speed, fo...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of laser beam welding of Ti6Al4V sheet
This paper was aimed to report the 3D finite element analysis simulation of laser welding process of Ti6Al4V 1.7 mm sheets in butt joint in order to predict the temperature distribution, hardness, and weld geometry. The butt-joint welds were made using CO2 laser with the maximum power of 2.2 kW in the continuous wave mode. A part of the experimental work was carried out to verify the weld geome...
متن کاملWeld speed effects on quality of Ti/Al dissimilar metal joints using laser beam welding
Laser beam welding produces good quality welds with minimum shrinkage for sheet metal joints. The quality of welded joint depends upon surface morphology, hardness, mixing of liquid phases and metallurgical non-homogeneity induced by gradients of temperatures and cooling rate at the weld interface. In the present investigation, Titanium Grade5 (Ti) and AA2024 (Al) alloy dissimilar sheet metals ...
